THE SALISH SEA
The Salish Sea derives its name from the language of the Coast Salish First Nations. It stretches from the U.S. border on the Juan de Fuca archipelago to the tip of Vancouver Island.
Home to over 3000 marine species, and under severe threat from population and industrial expansion, the Salish Sea is one of our main focus areas.
Prime Minister Trudeau has announced that he will protect 10 percent of Canada’s coast by 2020. Our goal is to ensure that the both the Great Bear Sea and the Salish Sea are part and parcel of that 10 percent—and encourage our Canadian leaders to craft a lasting legacy of protecting our irreplaceable coastal communities.
