ANTARCTIC PENINSULA

In February 2017, we will return to the Antarctic Peninsula, this time
in a powerful partnership with Pristine Seas, National Geographic
Partners, and National Geographic Society. We will spend a month
creating a “sea to sky” snapshot of this important and breathtaking
area.

The goal of the expedition is to promote the establishment of a
marine protected area in the ocean surrounding the Antarctic
Peninsula. There we have the opportunity to protect 7 percent of the
world’s oceans in a single action—and protect the integrity of this
fragile ecosystem.

Despite being one of the coldest and harshest regions on the planet,
Antarctica is teeming with life and boasts the highest biodensity of
life anywhere on Earth. With climate change and increased demand
in Antarctic fisheries, it is also one of the most threatened.
