In February 2017, we returned to the Antarctic Peninsula in a powerful partnership with Pristine Seas, National Geographic Partners, and National Geographic Society. The goal of the expedition was to promote the establishment of a marine protected area in the ocean surrounding the Antarctic Peninsula. We have the opportunity to protect seven percent of the
world’s oceans in a single action—and protect the integrity of this fragile ecosystem.
Despite being one of the coldest and harshest regions on the planet,
Antarctica is teeming with life and boasts the highest biodensity of
life anywhere on Earth. With climate change and increased demand
in Antarctic fisheries, it is also one of the most threatened.
